Who are we?
The idea of establishing a university in the city of Hebron became prominent in the minds of a group of citizens headed by the late Sheikh Muhammad ‘Ali El-Ja’bari. Hebron University, the first university in Palestine began in 1971 with the Islamic Shari’a College. At the time forty-three male and female students joined the college from different parts of Palestine. In 1980, the college was renamed as Hebron University to include the College of Arts. Since then the University has continuously expanded to accommodate 13 colleges.
Hebron University is the oldest of the three universities in the city. It has a student body population of 11,000 and features nine undergraduate colleges including Arts, Islamic Law (Al-Shari`a), Science & Technology, Agriculture, Education, Finance & Management, Nursing, Pharmacy & Law and Political Science. Hebron University also offers a Museum on campus as well as a Radio Alam, a 24/7 broadcast at 96.1 FM featuring educational messages, current affairs shows and other useful programming.Hebron University has provided the highest number of student volunteers to the Excellence Center for Arabic training to its visiting international team.
The Sustainable Development Goals of the UN are a priority at HU.Through institutional reorganization, effective management, and resource mobilization to encourage the spirit of creative teaching and learning, research initiatives, and national and international engagement. In order to finance academic and research activities at the national and worldwide levels, HU will strengthen internal and external sources of resource mobilization through private, national, and international agencies and look into any other possible sources of funding. HU shall support collaborative approach to get reliable information from the colleges' councils and departmental committees. To reach everyone, HU starts community outreach programs.

Hebron University strives to promote excellence by providing quality, academic teaching, training, research and relevant community programs within the context of sustainable development, emphasizing social conscience and democratic values. In addition to providing students with the opportunity to realize their educational ambitions, the University aims to empower students to be productive citizens and active members of their community. It is the policy of the University to promote free expression and interaction among students, teachers, and the surrounding community.
