HEBRON UNIVERSITY is pleased to offer COURSES in ARABIC LANGUAGE AND SOCIETY for OVERSEAS STUDENTS, 100 hours per course.

This is a great opportunity to learn or improve your Arabic conversation skills (Palestinian dialect) AND to learn about the Palestinian culture.
We offer intensive Arabic Language classes according to your level (placement test on arrival). Topics include: grammar, vocabulary, social decorum, music, and day-to-day conversations; 60 hours.
Talks and discussions with experts may include: local culture, politics, history, agriculture. Learn about and try your hand at cooking popular traditional local dishes, local handicrafts, and 'Dabkeh' classes; 20 hours.

Other activities: Guided tours are included in the price of the programme (tours may change without prior notice); 20 hours. Examples of possible tours are:
Fridays are free to travel the country; we can advise and/or facilitate transportation/guides etc. We are able to arrange for small groups to go to local homes for supper (3-4 students per home) Already know a little Arabic? The three levels being offered are classified according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: A1, A2, and B1. |
Students have the choice between finishing the whole program (three levels) and choosing to enroll in one particular level depending on their proficiency level, which will determined by means of a placement test. Special courses may be designed for those who wish to study at more advanced levels, or they may sign up for regular courses offered at the Department of Arabic Language and Literature at the University.

Course costs cover: Tuition, 2 guided tours and a shared double room with breakfast; transfer to and from Tel Aviv airport; use of Hebron University gym, sauna and swimming pool.

- Travel:
We will provide transfers to and from the airport. Your arrival destination is Ben Gurion airport, Tel Aviv. Please send details of your flight, date and time of arrival.
Note: If we do not have a minimum number of students, the course will not be held and your registration fee will be refunded in full.

About Hebron and Hebron University: Hebron (known locally as 'al-khalil') is located in the West Bank of Palestine, 30km south of Jerusalem. With a population of around 250,000, it is the second largest city in the country - after Gaza. Hebron is home to the tomb of Abraham - the father of Judaism, Christianity and Islam - making it an important, historical pilgrimage site for all Abrahamic faiths. The city's importance throughout the last three millennia is well recorded in many religious and historical texts, and can be seen in many of the city's archeological sites. Its continued significance is reflected in current Israeli attempts to force the Palestinian population out of Hebron's historical center. In 2017, Hebron old city was named a World Heritage Site, (ref. https://whc.unesco.org/en/list/1565) Hebron University ( www.hebron.edu) was founded by the late mayor of Hebron, Sheikh Al Jabari and other notables in 1971. First established was the College of Islamic Law with an intake of 43 students. As of 2019, the University boasts 12 Colleges and approximately 10,000 students - 75% of whom are female.
