Hebron University - The inauguration of BAYTNA, The first complementary palliative care facility in Palestine

The inauguration of BAYTNA, The first complementary palliative care facility in Palestine

Hebron University in partnership with Patient’s Friends Society-Jerusalem opens the first palliative day care centre in the south of Palestine, in Hebron city. ‘BAYTNA’ is located a mere two minutes from the university in a house with a private garden. The project has been funded by generous supporters from all spheres.

Non communicable diseases such as heart disease, cancer, diabetes, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease  are the main causes of morbidity and mortality in Palestine. High rates of smoking especially among men and a high percentage of overweight and obese individuals all contribute to the alarming rates of often preventable conditions. As the prevalence of these diseases increases, the strain on the health system, patients and families become more critical.

‘BAYTNA’ will provide many services for chronically ill patients including psychosocial support, massage and physiotherapy, exercises, health education, nutrition advice and specialist care. Children and adults alike and their families will benefit from the services.

Hebron University students and professionals will be encouraged to volunteer and otherwise offer their time and expertise. BAYTNA is a centre for compassion, support and services.
