Discussing an MA Thesis in the Program of Natural Resources and Their Sustainable Management at Hebron University

The MA thesis of student Sayel Awad Abdul-‘Aziz Atawneh  from the Faculty of Graduate Studies –Program of Natural  Resources and Their Sustainable Management entitled “The Growth and Productivity of Different Kinds of Wheat Under the Conditions of  Rain Agriculure” was discussed. The study aimed at evaluating the growth and productivity of six  kinds of wheat which are : black dubiyyeh, white dibiyyeh, white haitiyyeh, Sham-3, Sham-5 and the ‘Anbar type in addition  to studying the  inheritance differences related to these kinds. The xperiment was conducted under the conditions of the rain agriculture in three different fields in the south of the West bank and they are: Al-Arroub Agricultural Station, Doura Field in Hebron and Jana Field in Bethlehem.

The results revealed moral differences  among the inheritance patterns  of the six kinds of wheat planted  in the three different locations. Based on the productive qualities, the black dubiyyeh showed  the highest productivity (seeds and straw0 compared with the three locations, whereas the two kinds Sham-3 and Sham -5 showed little productivity. In the same context, the black dubiyyeh kind planted  in the ‘Arroub location  showed the highest productivity for the South (416kgs./dunam).

The inheritance differences were shown  among the kinds  in two major  groups related to  the black dubiyyeh as a genetically separated kind. The first group  includes sham-5 , white haitiyyeh and  Sham-3. the second group  included the two kinds :white dubiyyeh and’Anbar.

Concerning the criteria of quality for the wheat, the results indicate that no important differences were noticed for all analyses conducted on the kinds of wheat and which included  calcium, magnesium, iron, zinc, copper, phosphorous,  boron, sodium, whole nitrogen, humidity , the dry substance and ash.

A committee consisting of Dr.  Riziq Bashir Islaimiyyeh as supervisor and head, Dr. Munqidh Shetayyeh as an external examiner and Dr. Yousef ‘Amr  discussed the thesis. The student successfully passed  the discussion.
