Hebron University Organizes Training Course on Humanitarian Law and UN Human Rights Mechanisms
Hebron, 12 May 2012-- With the view of improvement of the international legal skills for law students of Hebron University, the Legal Clinic organized on 8 and 12 May 2012 a training course on ‘Humanitarian Law and the UN Human Rights Mechanisms’. This training was conducted in cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner of Human Rights (OHCHR) and the mission of the Temporary International Presence in Hebron (TIPH). Sessions consisted of two parts. The first part, which was also open for the general public and to all law students, took place on 8 May 2102. The second part took place on 12 May 2012 and included only 29 law students who attend the first part. The training focused on reporting techniques and documentation of human rights violations to the United Nations Human Rights mechanisms, particularly treaty-bodies and Human Rights Special Procedures. The training included five practice cases which have been studied and presented by working groups that were formed by the participant. At the end the training students acquired participation certificates. Trainers in this course were Dr. Mutaz Qafisheh, Professor of International Law and Legal Clinic Director, and Mr. Hamed Qawasmeh, OHCHR Human Rights Officer, The Training Course coordinated by Mr. Hendam Rjoub, legal researcher at the legal Clinic.
