Hebron University Participates in Arab Media Forum and Global South in Istanbul

Professor Salah Eddin Abu Hassan of Hebron University attended the Arab Media Forum and Global South, organized by the Al Jazeera Media Institute in Istanbul under the title "Arab Media Forum and Global South: Independence and Narrative Restoration."

During the sessions, which included more than 70 academics and journalists from independent media institutions, Professor Salah Eddin Abu Hassan highlighted the Western media bias in covering the war on Gaza and the division of Arab media, emphasizing the need for a narrative that aligns with the region's aspirations for liberation and sustainable development.

Professor Abu Hassan also stressed the need for a practical guide for journalists to clarify news coverage contexts and editorial decision-making mechanisms, particularly in covering issues of liberation from colonialism and its cognitive hegemony.

Several recommendations emerged from the forum's concentrated discussions on funding, its effect on media institutions' independence, and strategies for helping these institutions develop self-financing. The Forum also recommended the publication of academic studies and journalistic manuals that represent the various perspectives that various cultures in the global south have embraced in opposition to the skewed Western narrative.

On the sidelines of the forum, an agreement was struck with some institutions to organize training activities for students from the HU Media Department in the coming period.
