Professor Khalil M. Thabayneh and Ms. Rounz J. Shawamreh from the College of Science and Technology at Hebron University published a scientific research entitled: Measurement of Some Natural Radioactive Isotopes Concentrations in Soil Samples in the Northern Part of West Bank – Palestine.

Published in Société Française de Radioprotection, an Impact Factor Scopus Journal on Radiation and Radiological Protection, the study meticulously measures and calculate the concentrations of radon, radium content, and annual effective dose using solid-state nuclear track detectors (CR-39). Soil samples were collected from different areas in the northern areas of the West Bank (Tulkarm, Jenin and Tubas Governorates).

The study revealed that some concentration measurements and the resulting radiation doses exceeded the permissible global limits. The measurements and calculations obtained in this study constitute a basic database for radioactivity levels in Palestine, making them an important reference for evaluating future studies and drawing a radiation map of the Palestinian areas.
