Under the patronage of the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Nabil El-Jabari, the Arabic Department at Hebron University with the cooperation of Al-Qattan Foundation held the Conference of “Palestinian Literature After Oslo” which was attended by the President of the University, the Vice Presidents, a number of administrative staff and academicians in addition to the Director of the Education Directorate in Hebron , the President of Palestine Ahliyya Unniversity , the director of the office of the Ministry of Culture in Hebron and representatives from a number of Palestinian educational institutions and universities. At the beginning of the meeting, the Chairman of the Arabic Department, the head of the preparatory committee for the Conference, Dr. Husam Al-Tamimi, welcomed the participants and the guests. The Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Dr. Nabil El-Jabari gave a comprehensive speech in which he indicated the effects of the Oslo Agreement on the Palestinian people in its life and reality. In his speech, he called for unifying the Palestinian people, renouncing its disagreements which divided this people, returning to unity and not adhering to superficial posts which are useless. The minister like any ordinary person is subjected to harassments and difficulties which we daily face from the occupation. He presented a call which he entrusted the men of letters, poets, and intellectuals with , for the sake of raising the awareness of this people with what surround them and educating them with their reality. Professor Ahmad Harb from Bir Zeit University presented a defining literary testimony of the Palestinian literature after Oslo. Professor Ahmad Al-Atawneh presented the image of the Palestinian in the Israeli curricula and he acquainted the audience with the distorted image of the Palestinian as depicted by the Israeli curricula. Mr. Sulaiman Al-Natour gave a literary testimony entitled” The inside Scene: Exile Culture and a Homeland Memory.”

The first scientific session began with a number of papers. The session was chaired by Dr. Adel Al-Astah from Al-Najah National University. The session began with a research paper by Dr. Farouq Muwasi from Al-Qasim Academy, entitled”Tamim Al-Barghouthi and the poem “Jerusalem”. Then Dr. Ali Al-Khawajah from Bir Zeit University presented a research paper entitled” Oslo and Political Assassination in the Sirbiyyeh of Samih Al-Qasim”. Dr. Adnan Uthman from Hebron University presented a paper entitled “The Rhythm of Time and Place in the novel “Another Shadow of the City.” In the second session of the Conference, which was chaired by Mr. Yousef Al-Tartouri ,director of the Ministry of Culture office in Hebron, Professor Adel Al-Astah from Al-Najah University presented a paper entitled “The Alienation of the Returnees to the Homeland: A Reading of the Collection “One Sky”. After this, Dr. Yassin Kattani from Al-Qasim Academy presented a paper entitled “Mountains Become Nothing: Difference and Opposite in the Heart of “The Harbours of Illusion.” This was followed by a paper entitled “ Artistic Features in the Palestinian Novel After Oslo” presented by Dr. Mahmoud Al-Atshan from Bir Zeit University , and the paper of Dr. Hussein Al-Darawish from Al-Quds University entitled “The Role of the Interrogative in Featuring the Image of Jerusalem in the Palestinian Poetry Before and After Oslo.” At the end of the first day of the Conference an evening of song and heritage was held with the cooperation of the office of the Ministry of Culture in Hebron. This activity was carried out by the Hebron University chorale. This was followed by tales and readings from the life of the Palestinian presented by artist Salman Al-Natour. It is worth mentioning that the Conference is held in two days at the campus of Hebron University.
